Supported by the Engineering Student Center, the LEED and STAR Scholars Programs are community and scholarship programs designed to enhance the engineering student experience and support your success. The Engineering Student Center offers various academic and social programs and services to foster a campus environment that is both welcoming and supportive for every student.
Monthly Community Meetings
Each month, we gather to build community together. Meetings feature workshops and activities designed to promote your personal and professional development. We also enjoy a dinner together!
Study Nights
A few times a semester, LEED and STAR scholarship students take over a room in the Undergraduate Learning Center to check-in, eat, and study together. Checking in with other students about specific classes, hearing from upperclassmen about their experiences, and working together to share studying techniques, are a few of the possible benefits of the Study Nights.
Career Development
The Engineering Student Center works closely with Engineering Career Services (ECS) to hold meet-and-greet events with leading engineering and tech company reps around the time of the fall and spring STEM Career Fairs. We also partner to take students on industry site visits to see engineering in action at local companies such as GE Healthcare, Electronic Theatre Controls, Findorff, and SubZero.
The Engineering Student Center
The Engineering Student Center offers a great space for students to make connections and build a sense of belonging in the College of Engineering starting with your first day on campus.

LEED Scholars: The Fine Print
When you’re chosen as a LEED Scholar, an investment is being made in you — and it’s important to take this commitment seriously. LEED scholarships are renewable for up to eight semesters of your undergraduate enrollment. To continue to be eligible to receive LEED scholarship funding each semester, students must:
-
- Maintain full-time student status (complete a minimum of 12 credits each semester) in the College of Engineering
- Maintain a cumulative and semester GPA of at least 2.8
- Continue to make satisfactory progress toward your engineering degree program
- Actively participate in LEED programming (math study tables, advising appointments, and monthly community meetings)
- Provide thank you messages and personal updates for your scholarship award donors as required
- Be an active program participant and positive contributing member to the LEED Scholars, College of Engineering, and UW Madison community
Math Study Tables Expectations
All LEED Scholars will participate in math study table sessions through Math 234 designed to reinforce key concepts learned in your math course. Your math study table session leader may also be a fellow LEED student! (At SOAR you will be directed to enroll in the appropriate InterEGR 150 lab section that corresponds with your math course.)
Advisor Expectations
You will meet at least once per semester with your dedicated LEED advisor, Sarah Hallas. Your LEED advisor works closely with your academic advisor and can discuss campus and community resources, the transition to college, interest in research opportunities, as well as personal, academic, and professional goals and challenges. Sarah provides another layer of support to promote your success throughout college.

LEED/STAR Peer Mentoring Program
The mission of the LEED/STAR Peer Mentoring Program is to support the transition to college life for incoming LEED/STAR Scholar Engineers. We want to help you succeed in classes, make friends, and establish a great foundation for the rest of your college career. Through this program, we hope that you will find a sense of belonging and community within the LEED/STAR Scholars Program and the College of Engineering.
LEED/STAR Advisory Board
The LEED/STAR Advisor Board is comprised of LEED/STAR Scholars who are excited about contributing to their scholarship community in the following ways:
- Brainstorming content/structure of community meetings, community socials, other LEED/STAR events
- Providing feedback on overall program/structure
- Providing student insight on how to address challenges we’ve had
If interested, you could also be involved with:
- Promoting programming

- Facilitating community meetings
We will be recruiting incoming students to join us after you arrive on campus so consider whether you would like to apply when the invitation comes. The commitment is 1 hour/month during the academic year.
