Donald L. Gillian-Daniel, Ph.D. (Don; he/him) joins IEDE as the Director of Professional Development. Don’s work is practitioner-oriented. For example, with the Delta Program in Research, Teaching and Learning, and Center for the Integration of Research, Teaching and Learning Network (CIRTL Network), Don developed and directed an evidence-based teaching internship program and created and taught face-to-face and synchronous online courses about effective and inclusive teaching for graduate students and postdoctoral scholars. Through two NSF-funded projects, the National Science Foundation’s INCLUDES Aspire Alliance, and the Inclusive STEM Teaching Project, Don will continue to support faculty nationally in their development of inclusive professional practices (e.g., teaching, advising, research mentoring, colleagueship, and leadership). Don is also an Assistant Director and Research Affiliate with Wisconsin’s Equity & Inclusion Laboratory (Wei LAB). Don’s work has appeared in a range of publications including New Directions in Teaching and Learning, the Community College Journal of Research and Practice, Innovative Higher Education, Frontiers in Sociology, as well as Change: The Magazine of Higher Learning. Outside of work, Don enjoys biking, camping, backpacking, kayaking as well as cross country skiing and snowshoeing with his partner and 3 kids.
